Born in 1974, Japan, Maiko Sugano is received her BFA from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (The current name is Tokyo University of the Arts), School of Fine Arts in 1997.

Sugano is received her M.F.A. (Wood /Furniture) from California College of the Arts Master in Fine Arts (Wood /Furniture) in 2004.

At 2009 to 2010, Sugano Studied abroad as the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists, as a visiting researcher at the Marta Herford Museum in Germany, supported by Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.

In 2014, Sugano is received her Ph.D. (Fine Art) from Tokyo University of the Arts.
